Weekly Pool Service – Phoenix Pool Service FAQ
What does weekly pool service include?
Our Essentials Weekly Service Plan includes brush, skim, empty baskets, balance water chemistry, and check equipment each week. Our Preferred Weekly Service Plan is an extended service where vacuuming is required regularly. Reports with notes and photos are sent after every visit. Filter cleaning is scheduled separately (first one is free).
How much does it cost?
We have a variety of weekly service plans. Our most popular service plan is the Essentials weekly plan. Standard pricing: $140/month. Twice yearly we bill a biannual chemical fee ($200–$300 based on pool size). Filter cleans are $75–$95 each.

When will my pool be serviced?
You’ll be assigned a consistent service day. Times may vary but the day remains steady. We service year-round except Thanksgiving week and Christmas week. And in the case of significant rain, one week may be taken off January through March. We guarantee no weeks off April–October.
What happens if it rains or storms?
In rain we provide a limited service: empty baskets, check system, add chemicals. After monsoons/dust storms, cleanup or a follow-up “dust-vac” may be scheduled if needed.
How do billing & payments work?
Billed monthly in advance. Invoices go out the last day of the month and are due by the 7th. AutoPay is optional via your Jobber Client Hub or by calling (602) 638-2400.
What if my pool is green when service starts?
The first visit is a Complimentary Maintenance Evaluation (CME). If algae or poor water quality requires extra chemicals or visits, we’ll notify you first.

Severe green pools may need additional cleanings outside regular service.

Can I cancel service anytime?
Yes — you can cancel anytime with written notice by email or letter.

What is the frequency of service and how long is the service?

Weekly pool service works for most pools. If your pool is properly equipped and not overloaded with debris or size, weekly visits will keep it clean and clear.

  • Essentials Service (10–20 min): Best for low- to mid-maintenance pools.
  • Preferred Service (25–35 min): For higher-demand pools needing extra care.

Both options are designed to fit the majority of pools across the Valley.

What is chlorine?
Chlorine is the primary sanitizer used in swimming pools. It kills bacteria, prevents algae growth, and keeps water safe and clear for swimmers.
What forms of chlorine do we use?
We use three main forms:
  • Chlorine tablets (trichlor): For steady, controlled maintenance throughout the week.
  • Calcium hypochlorite (Cal-Hypo): A granular product used in small, controlled doses to boost chlorine levels when needed.
  • Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite): For quick adjustments and shocking.

Of these, only tablets provide a steady feed of chlorine. Cal-Hypo and liquid chlorine are short-term boosts used when immediate adjustments are necessary.

How do we maintain chlorine levels between visits?
We rely on chlorine tablets for steady, controlled dispersion of sanitizer throughout the week.
Where are chlorine tablets placed?
Tabs are typically placed in a floater. Skimmer use for tabs isn’t recommended as a routine practice; however, using the skimmer periodically when strategy calls for it is a perfectly acceptable approach.
Do some pools use built-in feeders?
Yes — some pools have a chlorine tab feeder plumbed into the circulation system. This setup provides a dedicated place for tablets, so they’re not left floating in the pool or sitting in the skimmer basket.
With cyanuric acid (conditioner) built into tabs, is a high CYA level a concern?
Yes. While CYA is necessary to protect chlorine from the sun, levels that climb too high reduce chlorine’s effectiveness. If CYA creeps above the recommended range, the only solution is a partial drain and refill to bring it back down.
Why not just use unstabilized products like liquid chlorine or calcium hypochlorite granules?
Unstabilized products don’t “feed” the pool throughout the week. They provide an instant boost of chlorine, which is necessary when readings are low or zero, but the effect is short-lived. To truly maintain chlorine levels, there must be something dissolving at a steady rate — that’s the role of chlorine tablets, which release sanitizer gradually day by day.
What does SwimHappy offer for CYA level management?
SwimHappy offers discounted draining and dilution services in the fall and winter months to help reset CYA. To stay within the recommended 30–80 ppm range, we suggest a partial drain every 1–2 years.
What is pH and why does it matter in pools?
pH measures how acidic or basic the water is on a 0–14 scale. In pools, we aim for 7.2–7.8 to keep water safe, comfortable, and balanced.
How does pH affect swimmers, surfaces, and equipment?
Low pH makes water corrosive, irritating eyes and skin, and damaging plaster or metal. High pH promotes scaling and cloudy water.
Does pH impact chlorine effectiveness in stabilized (CYA) pools?
In outdoor pools with stabilizer (CYA), chlorine effectiveness is driven mainly by the FC:CYA ratio, not small pH swings. We still keep pH in range for clarity and protection, but we don’t “chase” it for sanitizer strength.
How do we keep pH in the right range without constantly chasing it?
We focus on containing pH rather than adjusting it daily. By keeping alkalinity steady (80–120 ppm), pH stays manageable with only periodic acid additions.
Should I be alarmed if my weekly pH reading is always around 8?

No — this is not a cause for alarm. Pool water naturally off-gasses CO₂, which leads to a gradual rise in pH over time. If alkalinity is within the proper range and we see pH at 8, adding a small dose of muriatic acid is normal practice. We expect pH to lower with this treatment, and we also expect it to rise again by the following week — this is natural.

The key is to contain pH, not control it. Adding large or frequent doses of acid would eventually wipe out alkalinity, creating the opposite problem: low pH, which is corrosive and damaging to plaster, equipment, and swimmer comfort.

What happens if pH and alkalinity are left unchecked?

If pH remains over 8.0 and alkalinity stays above 120 ppm for extended periods — especially when paired with Arizona’s naturally high calcium levels — the pool will begin to push calcium out of solution, leaving scale deposits on surfaces.

Significant waterline scale is almost always the result of neglected pH and alkalinity. But it is important to know that scale at water features or spillways is more common, even with regular pH and alkalinity adjustments.

Even with proper weekly service, periodic scale maintenance (such as bead blasting) should be anticipated. However, scaling should never be “out of control” at the waterline — that usually points to older water or prolonged chemistry neglect.

What is total alkalinity?
Total alkalinity is the buffer that helps keep pH stable. It prevents sharp swings up or down from chemical additions or environmental factors.
What range do we aim for with alkalinity?
We keep alkalinity in the 80–120 ppm range. This provides enough buffering to contain pH without making it resistant to normal adjustments. In some cases, maintaining alkalinity between 60-70 is acceptable but this is an advanced strategy.
What happens if alkalinity is too low?
Low alkalinity means pH can bounce dramatically, making water unstable and harder to manage. It also increases the risk of corrosive water.
What happens if alkalinity is too high?
High alkalinity causes pH to drift upward and resist correction. Pools with high alkalinity often require more frequent acid treatments to contain pH.
